On my way to success!
As part of my new life in New York City it has become my mission to see as much theatre as possible, therefore the subscription that I have enables me to see a variety of shows for $5 or under, granted they are all experimental and Off-Broadway, but this is still an exciting way to participate in theatre.
In addition to seeing as much theatre as possible, I try to make it a point to support the endeavors of artistic Fairbanksans. One day while going through my Facebook feed I noticed that Archie Bongiovanni (someone I went to West Valley was giving a lecture on cartooning and gender bias.) For this I decided to go support this person at Brooklyn library. While waiting for the event to start I received a life changing email. It was from a publishing house. The email stated that they wanted to publish my books. I was beside myself with excitement, even though the email mentioned that I was not receiving a lot of web traffic and went on to basically insult my marketing tactics. At this point I was really ready to bring on a 3rd party that could lend me a little expertise to balance out my extreme passion and drive.
Later I found out that I was going to have to pay for this publishing package, however I kind of expected this at this day in age. What really sold me on investing in this publishing package was the fact that it guarantees me a literary agent as well as exposure in stores like Barnes and Noble.
In between my book endeavors I make sure to have plenty of fun. I have this great friend Shirley (who once again is a Fairbanks girl) and she has an apartment on Murray Hill with an unreal sky-line view, and one day we were able to just eat lunch on her rooftop. I felt like true royalty!
I must admit there was a definite period in time where I was going out to eat a lot with the "... Athlete" who I have decided to give the code name Ron to. Stay tuned for some interesting Ron stories. Ron lived on the Upper West Side. Initially it was very fun to spend time with him. I noticed that he was slightly cynical, self involved, and kind of concerned with money, but those traits seem to be somewhat normal in NYC. When hanging out with Ron I found that I was able to explore areas of the city in style. I found that with him (due to the fact that he worked on Wall Street) I wasn't constantly worried about money, therefore I was able to go to some of the nicest restaurants in the neighborhood and to explore sites while holding the hand of a gentleman. It almost felt too good to be true, and now I know it was, but it was enjoyable while it lasted.
Fast forward to current day. No longer am I permitted to be seen with Ron, but before that we really did care about each other and I am still grateful that he enabled me to explore the Upper West Side.
In New York it is so easy to get caught up in the cynicism of life, but it's essential to never take yourself too seriously and to go about life with an open heart.
