I Got You Babe!
Well harnessing this one and keeping her from the Great White Way is a next to impossible feat. The truth of the matter is that "I love me some showtunes" and there "ain't nothing like a Broadway show." Recently I went through this whole online dating phase in hopes that I would find my prince who could alleviate some of the financial strain brought upon by life in the city. I found that filling out numerous profiles is utterly exhausting and after a while I found that I just started being honest, so under hobbies for OkCupid I put "listening to showtunes." Remarkably guys actually seemed to be attracted to my quirkiness and honesty. I wish I could say that my online dating stint was not a fiasco, however, let's just say that there are no foreseeable plus ones in my future!
Although I was extremely excited to be able to see "the Cher Show," I must say that it was entertaining but at the same time a let down. It was basically a biography of her life encompassed by all of her greatest hits. The entire show was created around these three Cher's (at different stages in her life). The first Cher was the young girl with the big voice who was discovered by Sonny Bonno. The second woman was the beautiful young adult Cher who was in the Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour who began to realize her self worth and the third woman was played by the Tony award winning Stephanie J. Block. Block played the version of Cher who celebrated femininity and girl power. My favorite line in the whole play was "Why don't you marry a nice, rich man?" - Cher's mom. "Mama, I am a rich man." - Cher.
